Qalballah, a member of our service, has started a Group for Muslim women who suffer Post Natal Illness - she says:
 |
"There is a verse from the Qur'an which states 'For every hardship there is relief' and 'for every disease there is a cure', but for those women who have experienced Post Natal Illness these promises seem to remote to be true.
PNI is a confusing and frightening mix of symptoms and the sufferer can feel isolated and bewildered. Within the Muslim community too
misunderstanding of the illness leads many women to go without the help and the support they need as issues are ignored, trivialized or sidelined.
Now there is a Yahoo group run by Muslim survivors of Post Natal Illness to offer sisterly advice and comfort for others who are currently wading through this terrible test.
Together we can help you get through, get the support you need and offer all help we can." |
The group can be found here

| House of Light - PND/PNI Support Yorkshire |
|
|
 |
Joanne is a member who has started a support service for women suffering PND/PNI in Yorkshire called "House of Light" which is a constituted voluntary organisation with Karan Cunnningham a care co-ordinator for social services
To serve: Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire
0800 043 2031
email: houseoflight4pnd@yahoo.co.uk
website: www.pndsupport.co.uk

House of Light aims are:
- 1-1 support/listening home visits to support women and their families for women who feel unable to leave home, we both felt that way in our illness and at this stage we feel attending mother & baby groups just reinforces how lonely and isolated you feel at that time. To build confidence up that in time women feel able to move forward
- .E mail support - confidential, and we find relationships and trust is built up.
- Telephone help lines, for women who want to discuss their concerns. We noticed that often helplines are not open enough or they are run by inexperienced people, and that sometimes you just need to speak to someone who has been there!
- Group sessions - For women who want to attend and feel able. We aim for women to build up friendships, share ways of coping and realise that they are not alone We will carry this work out weekly, we have premises available with a private counselling room, provided by our local church -Living Hope Church in Hull,
- Group sessions for partners and carers, to support them and to help them support their partners. Our husbands have volunteered their services to speak to fellow men!
- We want to raise public awareness, we have appeared on local news and radio. We have filmed a documentary to be aired on 27th march called "Is it worth it?" this was done by ITV. We want to break the stigma that still unfortunately is attached to PND
- We want to act as an advocate for women in need
- We want to work in conjunction with GP's, Health Visitors, Midwives and CPN's.
